To make the transition between the photos of Tokyo and those of Kyoto, what could be more suitable than taking the Hikari Shinkansen ?

    @stevejack0 the N700 has a maximum speed of 300 km/h, it reaches 270km/h within 3 minutes.
    on the Tokkaido line (the name of the Tokyo - Kyoto route), you have the "Hikarie" (= "Light") which uses the N700 trains. it takes 3 hours for 525 km because it makes 9 stops.
    there is also the "Nozomi" (= "Hope") which uses the same N700 train but makes only 3 or 4 stops, so it's 30 minutes faster.
    both are very expensive, but only on the Hikarie you can use the Japan Rail Pass. with the pass, you make unlimited rides with or without reservations, that's the most incredible thing : you hop on / hop off the Hikarie Shinkansen like a metro line !

    @mackiechartres That's cool! Thanks for the info. Did you mostly travel in Japan by train?

    by the way, @stevejack0 , we are thinking of going back to Japan next year, to see more of Kyoto (our stay there was too short), and some smaller towns too, so MORE TRAINS to take 😁
    Japanese are very proud about their trains, there is really an important sub-culture about that, with dedicated shops, museums, themed restaurants or cafes etc... you can even buy CD's with tracks of the speaker's announcements in stations, or of female voices making annoucements inside the trains !!!! 🤣

    @mackiechartres Crikey! In the UK we have Trainspotters, although I believe the pastime isn't as popular as it used to be. It's nice to hear the Japanese are proud of their railways. I love travelling by rail.
    Oh and guess what camera my son recently bought for himself?
